    Managing Director - Edward Nartey Botchway

    Edward Nartey Botchway was appointed as Managing Director of the bank on 10 July 2024. He is an accomplished banker with over 20 years of diverse experience in business leadership, finance, strategy, operational efficiency, and performance management.

    Edward joined Absa Bank Ghana LTD from Ecobank where he held various roles including Managing Director of Ecobank Liberia and Regional Consumer Head - Anglophone West Africa comprising Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Gambia. He also previously served as the Regional Chief Finance Officer for Anglophone West Africa, and for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa, Group Manager Budgeting and Planning based in Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Lome -Togo.

    Edward has also held executive roles in GCB Bank PLC and Citi Savings and Loans. In addition, he brings a wealth of board experience, having served as Board Chairperson of Ecobank Investment Managers Ltd, Ecobank Venture Capital Fund and Ecobank Leasing. He was a Board member of Ecobank Sierra Leone, Ecobank Liberia, Ecobank Ghana and Exim Guaranty Company Limited.

    He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and a Master’s in Applied Business Research from the Swiss Business School – Zurich Switzerland as well as Postgraduate degree in Contemporary Management from the Nobel International Business School (NiBS) Accra and a BA Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.

    Edward is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA – United Kingdom), a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) Ghana and a member of the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA)..

     

    Managing Principal and Executive Director - Adolph Kpegah

    Adolph is a Managing Principal and an Executive Director of Absa Bank Ghana LTD. He joined Absa Bank in 2008 with a diversity of experiences in business development, relationship management and credit risk management within the Consumer Banking, Business Banking and Corporate & Investment Banking segments.

    He worked with two other banks in the industry before joining Absa Ghana and has served in various capacities before progressing to Chief Risk Officer in 2018.

    Adolph holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with Statistics from University of Ghana and an MSc. in Business Administration (Finance) from Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA).

    He also has a certificate in Advance Commercial Lending from the IFS School of Finance, London.

     

    Executive Director: Retail and Business Banking - Kobla Nyaletey

    Kobla is the Managing Principal for Retail and Business Banking and an Executive Board Director at Absa Bank Ghana. Prior to assuming this role, he was Director & Head of Global Markets, Corporate and Investment Banking at Absa Bank Ghana with oversight responsibility over Absa group’s Global Markets business in Nigeria.

    As Head of Markets, Kobla was responsible for the firm’s FX, Bond Sales & Trading business, Debt Structuring & Distribution as well as Risk Management Product sales. Kobla joined Absa Ghana (erstwhile Barclays Ghana) in 2005 and has experience in Treasury, Corporate Banking, Retail Risk and Operations.

    Prior to becoming Head of Global Markets, Kobla was Head of Trading & Treasury Execution Services (TES) and acted in the capacity of Country Treasurer for Barclays Bank Ghana for a year. Kobla is a member of the Executive Committee of Absa Bank Ghana and sits on other management committees.

    He has led key bond distribution and structured FX swap transactions in the Ghanaian market. He is a frequently quoted authority on the Ghanaian market and is widely consulted by the Ministry of Finance, multilateral organisations, and industry analysts, among others.

    He holds a BSc. degree in Banking and Finance and an Executive MBA in Finance, from University of Ghana Business School. He is also a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

    Kobla is a past president of ACI Ghana –The Financial Markets Association, a past executive and avid member of the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central.

     

    Executive Director and CFO -  Munatsi Mkushi

    Kush has been a key management personnel and member of Absa Bank Ghana LTD.’s Country Management Committee (CMC) after his appointment as Director of Strategy on February 15th, 2021. He is currently an Executive Director in charge of Finance at the bank.

    Kush has extensive experience in business strategy & competitor analysis, financial performance analysis, financial & commercial due diligence, integrated operational & financial modelling, mergers & acquisitions, valuations, retail risk, investor relations & cost management. In his 16 years of experience, Kush has worked across multiple organisations and sectors; including Ernst & Young LLP, United Kingdom (UK), Mondi PLC (UK), GE Capital (UK), Barclays International (UK) and currently Absa Ghana.

    He holds a Masters’ degree in Experimental and Theoretical Physics from University of Cambridge, UK. He has also attended the Management Studies programme at Cambridge University Judge Business School. He is a Chartered Accountant (ICAS), a member of the Institute of Physics (UK) and a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society. He is fluent in Portuguese.

     

    Managing Principal: Corporate and Investment Banking - Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa

    Ellen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana and has over 20 years’ experience in the Banking Industry. She has a track record of consistent excellent performance in the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) business.

    Under her leadership, the Ghana CIB team has won several awards, including Best Bank for Trade Finance-Ghana (The Digital Banker Innovation Awards 2022), Market Leader and overall Best Service awards at the Euromoney Cash Management Awards (2019, 2021).

    Ellen has training in leadership from Duke Corporate Education, South Africa and the BANKSETA International Executive Development Programme. She holds an EMBA from the GIMPA Business School (Ghana), a BSc. Degree in Agricultural Economics from KNUST, Ghana; and Diplomas in Customer Relationship Management and Credit Skills Development from London Institute of Banking and Finance (UK).

    Ellen is a Rotarian and the Charter President for Rotary Club of Accra Osu-Oxford Street. She is highly motivated and passionate about people development and giving back to society. She also served for 6 years as Council Member of the Ghana Institute of Bankers.

     

    Retail Banking Director - Charles Addo

    Charles joined the erstwhile Barclays bank Ghana in 2007 as the Head of Retail Expansion, before leading the Barclays@Work team.

    Until his current role, Charles led the Customer Network team and was responsible for driving the Retail and Business Banking agenda throughout the Network and the Customer Lifecycle Management (CLM), a principle that he championed and embedded as a way of life across the bank.

    He has also served as the Head of Deposits & Card Acquiring and Alternate Business Models workstream. In his relatively short time at the helm of this unit, Charles led his team to deliver the highest ever end of period balance in liabilities in 2016 and was acknowledged as the best Acquiring business in Africa, that same year.

     

    Business Banking Director - Grace Anim-Yeboah

    Grace joined Absa Bank Ghana (erstwhile Barclays Bank) in October 2007 from Standard Chartered Bank.

    She is credited with creating and building the Cash Management unit in Barclays Bank Ghana and going on to win the Euromoney Best Cash Management Bank in Ghana award. Grace has held different roles across several countries in Africa. These include Head of Transaction Banking in Zambia, Regional Head of Cash Management (for Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Egypt, and Ghana), Director of Client Solutions in Barclays Bank Mozambique, and Director, Global Clients in CIB Ghana.

    She is currently the Director for Business Banking at Absa Bank Ghana. 

    Grace holds an MBA in Oil and Gas from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.

     

    Country Treasurer - Kenneth Gborglah

    Kenneth joined Absa Bank in August 2015 as Country Treasurer. Prior to joining the bank, he worked with Standard Chartered Bank in various roles and capacities across the Treasury space for more than 13 years, the last ten of which was spent in Asset and Liability Management (ALM).

    Ken is an accomplished banker whose wealth of work experience in balance sheet, liquidity, and interest rate risk management span various countries, including USA, Ghana, Cameroon, the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK, where he consistently generated high revenues, and oversaw significant balance sheet growth and stability. Kenneth is also currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Absa Occupational Pension Scheme and Provident Fund

    He holds an MSc in Investment Management from Cass Business School in London; a BSc Administration (Accounting Option) from University of Ghana, Legon and an ACI dealing certificate.

    Director of People and Culture - William Easmon

    William is a progressive and transformative leader with diversity of experiences in the human resources space in Ghana’s corporate world.

    He joined Absa Bank in 2013 from Fidelity Bank where he was an integral part of crafting policies, developing engagement tools, initiating projects, and aligning HR strategies to overall organizational goals.

    With close to 21 years progressive hands-on HR experience spanning the private, public, non-profit, and financial sectors, William has in-depth understanding of generational diversity and its direct effect on workforce engagement and productivity.

    This has enabled him to spearhead tailor-made solutions to engagement issues; performance management, reward, and retention issues, among others, which have stood the test of time and added value to the many organisations he is worked for.

    William holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Ghana, Legon, a Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy from the University of Ghana and a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Galilee College, The International Management Training Institute, Israel. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners, Ghana.

     

    Head of Markets - Jacob Brobbey

    Jake joined Absa Bank Ghana in 2006 as part of its Retail Banking Business division before moving to the bank’s Treasury department a year later. After Treasury and Markets were spun-off into two separate entities, he joined the Trading team, where he rose through the ranks to become Head of CIB Markets.

    Over the years, Jake has acquired extensive knowledge and experience in Risk Management, Treasury Management, Strategy, and Trading. In 2019, he served for seven months as the acting Head of Markets for the CIB Markets franchise in Seychelles and led them through a transitionary period.

    Jake is a sitting member of the Technical Committee of Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) – a body charged with the responsibility of advising the governing council on how to embed Fixed Income Trading Best Practices in Ghana. Additionally, he was part of the 10-member committee that drafted the Ghana Repo Trading Guidelines.

    Jake holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree from University of Cape Coast and an Executive MBA (Finance) from University of Ghana. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) of the United Kingdom, a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), and a holder of the ACI Dealing Certificate – with distinction.

     

    Chief Information and Enablement Officer - Justice Amegashie

    Justice is a Technology and Change professional with over 15 years’ experience within the Telecommunications and Financial Services industries, where he has overseen large-scale IT, Digital and Process transformation initiatives.

    He joined the bank in October 2015 as a Project Manager; and has gone on to serve in capacities such as Head of Change, Head of Digital & Change Enablement; and is currently the Chief Information & Enablement Officer, responsible for Technology and Change.

    Justice holds an MSc in Business Decision Management from Coventry University and is a Certified Project Management Professional. 

    He also holds an Advanced Certificate in System & Database Administration from the Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA).

    Justice has also received leadership training from IMD Business School as part of the LEAP programme. He is passionate about people development and using technology to solve commercial and social problems.

     

    Chief Customer Officer - Evelyn Acquah

    Evelyn has served as Chief Customer Officer since September 2020. Prior to this, she was Head of Customer Segments and Affluent Banking at Absa Bank Ghana, responsible for the development and ownership of Customer Value Propositions for the Affluent segment.

    She has over 17 years’ experience in Banking and Finance with core expertise in Product design and rollout, as well as managing customer value propositions and customer lifecycles. She has held several positions including Head of Products Development for Consumer-banking. She has pioneered a number of initiatives within the Retail banking Business notable amongst these is  roll out of Credit Cards, Variable rate loans  and the Ultimate account which won Best deposit product in West Africa by the Asian Banker.

    Evelyn is passionate about mentoring and empowering the youth particularly young women.  She is currently a member of the Executive Women Network and actively drives community development and fund-raising activities to support the less privileged.

    She holds an International Executive MBA in Strategic and Project Management from Paris Graduate School of Management, a certified Product Manager from the Association of International Product Marketing & Management (AIPMM) and a BSc. Administration degree from University of Ghana, Legon. She has also been trained in leadership from Duke Corporate Education in South Africa and is also a product of the African Development Initiative.

     

    Chief Operating Officer - Fred Nyinaku

    Frederick joined Absa Bank from Unilever Ghana Limited, as a Project Manager in 2005, where he built his capacity to become a senior Change Manager. Frederick has led the delivery of high-profile complex projects in system development and deployment, Business Process improvement models, Branch Rationalization, and a number of regulatory initiatives. He has subsequently served in capacities such as Head of Credit Operations, Markets, Treasury and Wholesale Operations - consisting of Payments operations, Trade Operations, Corporate Service Centre, and Central Securities unit. He has also garnered experience in Project and Change delivery, Banking Operations, operational and cost efficiency.

    Fred holds a BSc. degree in Land Economy and an EMBA in Finance from University of Ghana. He is a Certified Project Manager, with an ACI Operations Certificate and a Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Frederick has completed the Absa Excellence Programme for Senior Leadership and has also received leadership training from IMD Business School as part of the LEAP programme.

    He is enthusiastic about personal development, motivating and empowering successful teams.

     

    Marketing and Corporate Affairs Director - Nana Essilfuah Boison

    Nana is the Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs. She has over 28 years combined experience in Brand Marketing and Communication, External Relations, CSR Management, Consumer Services, Consumer Insights and Business Management. She joined the bank from Nestle Central and West Africa (CWAR) where she had coordinating oversight of 23 Central and West African Countries in the Culinary business.

    Essilfuah holds an EMBA in Marketing from University of Ghana Business School Legon, a BA (Hons) from University of Science and Technology (KNUST), majoring in Law and History. She also has a Digital Marketing Certificate from University of Stellenbosch Business School in Cape Town, South Africa. She is a certified Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Practitioner and an Adjunct Lecturer in Strategic Brand Management in one of Ghana’s Universities.

    She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, the Institute of Public Relations Ghana, the International Advertising Association, and the Executive Women Network. She has won several Industry awards, including Marketing Practitioner of the Year 2022, the Top 50 and 20 Marketing Professionals in West Africa in 2017 and 2019 respectively and the Marketing Personality of the Year in 2018.

     

    Compliance Director - Judith Hazel

    Judith is a Risk and Compliance professional with experience spanning over 20 years in the banking industry.

    Judith joined Absa Ghana from First National Bank Ghana (FNBG) where she served as Head of Compliance and member of the Executive team. Having joined FNBG from Barclays Bank Ghana Limited in 2015, Judith was key to the establishment of a sound Regulatory and Conduct Risk Management program at the start of operations of FNBG.

    Over the years in FNBG, Judith and her team received various regional and group awards owing to sterling performance, thereby helping to raise the profile of the Compliance function across the bank. As Head of Regulatory Affairs in Barclays Bank, Judith played a key role in the establishment of the Compliance Risk Management program. She also served with Barclays Bank Mauritius as the Acting Head of Regulatory Affairs.

    Judith had previously served as an Internal Auditor with the Bank of Ghana prior to joining Barclays Bank. She is a Chartered Banker and a Certified Compliance Officer. She holds an MBA in Finance and a bachelor’s degree in economics.

     

    Acting Chief Risk Officer - Annie Aborah

    Annie has over twenty years of accumulated experience in the banking industry having joined Absa Bank (then Barclays Bank Ghana) as a Management Trainee in 2003 from Standard Chartered Bank.

    She has served in various capacities within the Bank as Ag. Credit Director, Wholesale Credit Director, Head of Retail Credit Risk, Ag. Corporate Credit Director, Head Risk Control Unit, Senior Credit Manager, Corporate Credit Manager and Corporate Credit Manager’s Assistant. She’s worked in various capacities as well within other jurisdictions of the Bank, including Barclays Bank PLC in London, Absa Bank Kenya, and Absa Bank SA.

    She holds an Executive MBA in Finance from the University of Ghana Business School, PRIMIA Certificate in Advanced Retail Credit Risk Management, Moody’s Credit Mastery, IFS School of Finance (UK) Certificate in Commercial and Advanced Commercial Lending and BA in Economics and Sociology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

    Frances Adu-Mante - Board Chair

    Mrs. Frances Adu-Mante joined the Board on 1 September 2017. She holds an EMBA (Finance) from University of Ghana Business School, Bachelor of Laws Degree from the same university and a Professional Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana Law School. Additionally, she holds a Certificate of Completion of Programme in United States Law and Legal Institutions from the University of Wisconsin, USA. She is also an alumna of the INSEAD Executive Programme.

    She has 43 years’ experience in Law, Banking and Finance. She is currently a Consultant at Rofam Consultancy Services, a Legal and Human Resource Management Consultancy.

    Mrs. Adu-Mante worked with Ecobank Group for 25 years. Portfolios held included, Group Coordinator, Ecobank Microfinance & Managing Director/CEO EB-ACCION Savings & Loans Company Limited, Director, Retail Banking, Director & Head of Consumer Banking, Company Secretary/Head-Legal, Regulatory & Compliance with additional responsibility at various times for General and Credit Administration.

    Mrs. Adu-Mante was a member of several boards, including Ecobank Ghana Limited and currently the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, University of Ghana Business School Endowment Fund

    Stephen Ato Frimpong - Non-Executive Director

    Mr. Stephen Ato Frimpong was appointed Non-Executive Member of the Board on 1 March 2021. Mr. Frimpong holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Cape Coast in Ghana and a Master of Accounting degree from University of Texas at Austin. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). He served as Vice President and Chief Audit Executive at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, from November 2009 until his retirement on April 2, 2020. He had leadership responsibility for the company's global internal audit function, including supporting its compliance programmes and ethics related investigations.

    A governance expert and a thought leader, Stephen has significant board level experience with large US public companies and a proven track record of accomplishments in establishing and transforming corporate functions. He has expertise in Finance, Business Operations, Sales and marketing, Risk Management, Compliance and Ethics, Information Technology/ Cyber Security and Data Privacy matters.  Prior to joining Kimberly Clark, Stephen held a variety of leadership positions at Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Verizon in the United States of America

    Clinton Clarke - Non-Executive Director

    Mr Clinton Clarke was appointed Non-Executive Director to the Board of Absa Bank Ghana, effective 14 May 2021. He is an experienced Investment Banking Professional with over 25 years of multi-disciplinary Investment Banking experience in South Africa, rest of Africa and the UK. The last 12 years of this experience has been as a Managing Director in both Global Markets and Corporate and Investment Banking where he demonstrated a track record of building winning teams across several disciplines and jurisdictions.

    Clinton has worked at Board and Executive Committee levels across the Absa Group Limited and Barclays CIB, directing and executing strategy.

    He has extensive Board experience, having chaired, and served on several of Absa’s Asset management Companies, including Absa Alternative Asset Management and the New Gold Issuer Board. He was also Chairman of the Primary Dealers Association of South Africa.

    He has managed complex businesses and winning teams that are able to work across multiple jurisdictions while navigating the associated Compliance and Regulatory regimes. Mr. Clarke holds a BSc. and Bachelor of Laws degrees and is currently the Managing Executive, CIB SA Coastal Regions, SA.

    Benedicta Wontumi - Non-Executive Director

    Benedicta Wontumi is a top-class credit risk approver, coach and trainer. Her  26 years experience stems from high profile and reputable financial organisations including Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, Standard Chartered Bank and Merchant Bank Ghana Ltd.  

    Throughout her work in Standard Chartered Bank and Ecobank Transnational for a period of 19 years, she was granted substantial credit approval limits for the approval of loans for a wide customer base spanning from small and medium sized companies to multinationals across Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa, Europe, and Asia. 

    Benedicta  has been involved in the development and implementation of credit risk strategy for multinationals and local banks with rich relevant insights across more than 36 African countries.

    Benedicta is currently the Head of Credit Risk of Growth Investment Partners (GIP) which is a Private Equity Fund.

    Patricia Obo-Nai

    Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai is an electrical engineer and the first Ghanaian CEO of Vodafone Ghana, now Telecel Ghana.

    Ing. Obo-Nai holds a BSc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), an Executive MBA in Project Management from University of Ghana Business School and has completed executive education programmes at the Kellogg School of Management USA, London Business School, and INSEAD in France.

    She has over two decades of experience in IT and Telecommunications, working as Technology Director in both Millicom Ghana Limited (Tigo) and Telecel Ghana. She also led the Fixed Business and Customer Operations of Telecel Ghana prior to becoming CEO.

    She's recognised for her leadership and has numerous awards to her credit. She is passionate about the future of the youth and women in the digital age and has been on several local and international platforms including the UN General Assembly panel sessions advocating for youth and women.

    Angela Peasah - Non-Executive Director

    Mrs. Angela Peasah is a Chartered Accountant by profession and was admitted to the membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) in 1995.

    She holds an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana Business School, University of Ghana, Legon and is a product of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) now University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA).

    Angela worked with Coopers & Lybrand and its successor firm PricewaterhouseCoopers for about 10 years from 1991 where she managed many audit jobs including the World Bank and ADF fund projects, mining, insurance, and commercial organizations.

    She moved on to take accounting, finance, and administration roles in Saltpond Offshore Producing Company Limited and WaterAid Ghana Programme. From there, she moved to the Ghana Civil Service, where she worked at the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) for over 12 years in the various director positions. She retired from the CAGD as Director of Payroll Processing in September 2023.

    Angela is the past president of the Institute of Chartered accountants (Ghana) and was on the Institute’s Council from 2002 – 2014. She also served as a nominating committee member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) from 2019 to 2023. Angela has served on several other Boards and Councils.
