The Absa bereavement process

At Absa, we understand how difficult it is to lose a loved one, and how challenging it can be to deal with their financial matters. We are here to support you with the necessary arrangements and to guide you through each step to make the process as smooth as possible.

You can notify us of a bereavement by phone, email, or by visiting any of our branches. Our compassionate team is here to guide you through the process and to assist with any requirements, so you can focus on spending time with your loved ones and grieving without added burden.

It is important to note that when an account holder passes away, any power of attorney they granted is no longer valid. This means that agents or third parties can no longer act on their behalf. In terms of accounts reconciliation, the bank will use the account holder’s funds to settle any outstanding loans, overdrafts, or other obligations.
